Funeral Poems for Fathers
Losing a father can bring indescribable pain that leaves many grappling with a myriad of emotions.
Amid sorrow and mourning, it may be challenging to find the right words to express our grief and honour the memory of the man who played such a significant role in our lives. This is where funeral poems step in, offering solace and comfort when we need it most.
Funeral poems have a unique ability to encapsulate the essence of our feelings, providing a voice to the complex emotions swirling within us.
They serve as a poignant reminder of the love, admiration, and respect we hold for our fathers, allowing us to pay tribute to their legacy in a meaningful way.
Life Lessons - By Joanna Fuchs
You may have thought I didn't see,
Or that I hadn't heard,
Life lessons that you taught to me,
But I got every word.
Perhaps you thought I missed it all,
And that we'd grow apart,
But Dad, I picked up everything,
It's written on my heart.
Without you, Dad, I wouldn't be
The person I am today;
You built a strong foundation
No one can take away.
I've grown up with your values,
And I'm very glad I did;
So here's to you, dear father,
From your forever grateful kid.
-
Dad
We’ll always remember
That special smile,
That caring heart,
That warm embrace,
You always gave us.
You being there
For Mom and us
Through good and bad times,
No matter what.
We’ll always remember
You Dad because
They’ll never be another one
To replace you in our hearts,
And the love we will always
Have for you.

Goodbye Dad
It's never the right time
To say goodbye.
I will miss you, Dad,
And here is why.
You taught me so much:
To show no fear,
To always have fun,
And face the day with cheer.
You were always so able,
So fast and so strong.
In your little girl's eyes
You could do no wrong.
You would always listen,
And you never pried.
You were the arms around me
When I cried.
You never looked for praises,
And you were never one to boast.
You were always there
For those you loved the most.
You worked so hard,
And those strong working hands
Led me through life
And helped me understand
That life can be hard,
And tough, and sad,
But through it all
I had my Dad.
And because of you,
I understood
That life was actually
Pretty good.
I believe in you
And will follow your path,
And when things go wrong,
I'll look back and laugh.
I hope you can hear me
So I can let you know
That you were and will forever
Be my superhero.
So yes, today
I am full of sorrow,
But I will smile a little more
With each tomorrow.
So please, Dad, go
Be at rest
And know to me
You were always the best.
I love you so much and miss you every day!

As We Look Back- By Clare Jones
As we look back over time
We find ourselves wondering …..
Did we remember to thank you enough
For all you have done for us?
For all the times you were by our sides
To help and support us …..
To celebrate our successes
To understand our problems
And accept our defeats?
Or for teaching us by your example,
The value of hard work, good judgment,
Courage and integrity?
We wonder if we ever thanked you
For the sacrifices you made.
To let us have the very best?
And for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared?
If we have forgotten to show our
Gratitude enough for all the things you did,
We’re thanking you now.
And we are hoping you knew all along,
How much you meant to us.

The man that we call dad
He never looked for praises
he was never one to boast
he just went on quietly working
for those he loved the most.
His dreams were seldom spoken
his wants were very few
and most of the time his worries
went unspoken too.
He was there … a firm foundation
through all the storms of life
a sturdy hand to hold onto
in times of stress and strife.
A true friend we could turn to
when times were good or bad
one of our greatest blessings
the man that we call Dad

I Heard Your Voice In The Wind Today - Unknown
I heard your voice in the wind today
and I turned to see your face;
The warmth of the wind caressed me
as I stood silently in place.
I felt your touch in the sun today
as its warmth filled the sky;
I closed my eyes for your embrace
and my spirit soared high.
I saw your eyes in the window pane
as I watched the falling rain;
It seemed as each raindrop fell
it quietly said your name.
I held you close in my heart today
it made me feel complete;
You may have died...but you are not gone
you will always be a part of me.
As long as the sun shines...
the wind blows...
the rain falls...
You will live on inside of me forever
for that is all my heart knows.
One of A Kind
You really were one of kind, like the rarest type of gem
Your family can’t begin to thank you, for the influence you had on them
You taught them how to make a home, to help their children grow.
Teaching by your example, was the greatest way to know
As a Father you were loved, you could not have wished for more
Everyone loved that warm smile you had, when you greeted them at the door.
Your body was becoming tired and we know it was for the best
You overcame so many obstacles, you really deserve a rest
Please take with you all our love and give it to those gone before
We will never forget you, our love will last forever more.
No Regrets
We are all so different at the end of the day
In the things we remember and things that we say
Bitter and sweet memories is of what life is made
And what you’ve achieved, what’s made the grade
At the close of life, regrets can remain
Yet from these, you’ll find no peace to be gained
There can be regrets for things that were never said
Don’t let them come to mind when you lay in your bed
With grateful hearts you should leave here today
xxx would want you to be calm, at peace as they say
To go on with your lives embrace each day as your last
And smile at the memory on the days that have passed.
"Epitaph" by Merrit Malloy
When I die give what's left of me away
to children and old men that wait to die.
And if you need to cry,
cry for your brother walking the street beside you.
And when you need me, put your arms around anyone
and give them what you need to give me.
I want to leave you something,
something better than words or sounds.
Look for me in the people I've known or loved,
and if you cannot give me away,
at least let me live in your eyes and not in your mind.
You can love me best by letting hands touch hands,
and by letting go of children that need to be free.
Love doesn't die, people do.
So, when all that's left of me is love,
give me away.
A Life Well Lived
A life well lived is a precious gift
Of hope and strength and grace,
From someone who has made our world
A brighter, better place
It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad
With smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared
And laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy
Of joy and pride and pleasure,
A living, lasting memory
Our grateful hearts we’ll treasure
The Fishing Hole in the Sky- EsterSwanborough
When I come to the end of the horizon
And enter the other shore
Remember me with fondness.
Cry for me no more.
I have found my final resting place
That special spot to fish
Remember the times that we shared
You too, I will miss
This is the journey I must take,
and I must go alone
Know that my heart is with you,
as I take this journey home.
To that final fishing hole
For fishermen like me
To tell the biggest fishing tales
About the one that got away
Remember me with fondness
This is not goodbye
It is “Till we meet again”
At the fishing hole in the sky
Father
His charming ways and smiling face;
Are a pleasure to recall;
He had a kindly word for each;
And died beloved by all.
He suffered patiently and long;
His hope was bright,
his faith was strong,
The peace of Jesus filled his breast;
And in His arms he sank to rest.
All his toils and conflicts o'er.
Lo, he dwells with Christ above;
Oh, what glories he's discovered;
In the Saviour whom he loved.
You're not forgotten father, dear;
Nor ever shall you be;
As long as life and memory last;
I shall remember thee.
His weary hours and days of pain;
His troubled nights are past;
And in our aching hearts we know;
He has found sweet peace at last.
Gone is the face we loved so dear;
Silent is the voice we loved to hear;
Too far away for sight or speech;
But not too far for thought to reach;
Sweet to remember him who once was here;
And who though absent, is just as dear.
His smiling way and pleasant face;
Are a pleasure to recall;
He had a kindly word for each;
And died beloved by all.
Some day we hope to meet him;
To clasp his hand in a better land;
Someday we know not when;
Never to part again.
Our family circle has been broken;
A link gone from our chain;
But though we're parted for awhile;
We know we'll meet again.
We shall meet with many a loved one;
That was torn from our embrace;
We shall listen to their voices;
And behold them face to face.
Sunshine passes, shadows fall;
Love's remembrance outlasts all
