How to Elope?

How to elope in Brisbane in 2022

Jo from Big Love Ceremonies explains the best way to elope in 2020 without offending family.
Eloping is becoming more popular than ever. It is hassle free, cheaper and fun!
Weddings no longer need to be stressful, expensive and loaded with family pressure.

In my experience with elopements, my clients never regret it. Eloping couples are so relaxed, they have so much fun, they arrive happy and leave even happier.

Elopements don’t always equal offending families…I will walk you through ways to gently handle your families.

So, what is the process to get married? (heads up- it’s SUPER easy)

To be LEGALLY married you need to:

  • Lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage with me one month before your wedding date by completing the document, having your signatures witnessed by a prescribed authority (as listed on page 4 of the document) & then emailing me a copy.

  • Supply a passport (Or Birth Certificate AND Photo ID)

  • Provide proof of the dissolution of any previous marriages (divorce or death certificate)

  • Organise a time & place to get married

  • Bring two witnesses (18 years of age+) to witness the ceremony and sign the legal documents. (Yes, they can be related to you. Yes, they could be random strangers.)

  • Sign a s few legal documents (I provide these)

  • Say some legal wording (just a short sentence)

    And, HEY PRESTO! You’re Hitched!

Please let me know if you require a REGISTERED MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE so I can assist you with the application.

If you are choosing a Big Love Elopement, we keep the whole process super easy by emailing (or chatting on the phone) to organise everything, & we meet on the wedding day like old friends re-uniting.
