Funeral Poems for a Spouse/Partner

Memorial poems can be a helpful and beautiful addition to a funeral or memorial service.
Multiple Funeral poems can be included in the funeral program,
or a single poem or verse can be used to set the feeling for the service.
A memorial poem could be used in the eulogy, on the order of service, or on memorial cards.

The right poem can be a poignant tribute
and a way for some people to express themselves
when they are struggling to find their own words while grieving.
There are many different styles of memorial poems. All of them are appropriate for a celebration of life, funeral service or memorial
depending on the personality of the person who has died and the feeling of the service.

When I Close My Eyes

by W. Jason Duncan

When I close my eyes
You are here
Your charisma, your cheer, your tenderness
I feel you here

When I close my eyes
You are with me
Your spirit, your beauty, your charm
I feel you with me

When I close my eyes
You are in my arms
Your warmth, your compassion, your love
I feel you in my arms

No matter how far apart
Nor what the circumstance
I feel you here with me, in my arms; always
When I close my eyes.

THANK YOU

Thank you for your endless love.

That will help me through each day.

And thank you for the memories that will never fade away.

You’re the woman I loved and I was proud to be your husband.

And everyday – In some small way,

I will celebrate your life.

As long as memories last, you will stay in my heart.

Your loving husband.

She’s in the Sun, the Wind, the Rain

By Christy Ann Martine

She’s in the sun, the wind, the rain,
she’s in the air you breathe
with every breath you take.
She sings a song of hope and cheer,
there’s no more pain, no more fear.
You’ll see her in the clouds above,
hear her whisper words of love,
you’ll be together before long,
until then, listen for her song.

Memories in the Heart

Author Unknown

Feel no guilt in laughter, she knows how much you care
Feel no sorrow in a smile that she’s not here to share
You cannot grieve forever, she would not want you to
She’d hope that you can carry on, the way you always do
So talk about the good times and the ways you showed you cared
The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared
Let memories surround you.

A word someone may say
Will suddenly recapture a time, an hour, a day
That brings her back as clearly as though she were still here
And fills you with the feelings that she is always near
For if you keep these moments, you will never be apart
And she will live forever locked safe within your heart

IF WE COULD BRING YOU BACK AGAIN

By Joanna Fuchs

If we could bring you back again,
For one more hour or day,
We’d express all our unspoken love;
We’d have countless things to say.

If we could bring you back again,
We’d say we treasured you,
And that your presence in our lives
Meant more than we ever knew.

If we could bring you back again,
To tell you what we should,
You’d know how much we miss you now,
And if we could, we would.

In Memoriam

By William Morecomb

For a second you were flying
Like you always wanted to
Now you’ll fly forever
In skies of azure blue
We’ll see your smile in every ray
Of sunshine after rain
And hear the echo of your laughter
Over all the pain
The world’s a little quieter now
The colours have lost their hue
The birds are singing softly
And our hearts are missing you
Each time we see a little cloud
Or a rainbow soaring high
We’ll think of you and gently
Wipe a tear from our eye.

Just One More Day

By Kathy J. Parenteau

If I could have just one more day and
wishes did come true,
I’d spend every glorious moment
side by side with you.
Recalling all the years we shared
and memories we made,
how grateful I would be
to have just one more day.
Where the tears I’ve shed are
not in vain and only fall in bliss,
so many things I’d let you know
about the days you’ve missed.
I wouldn’t have to make pretend
you never went away,
how grateful I would be to
have just one more day.
When that day came to a close
and the sun began to set,
a million times I’d let you know
I never will forget.
The heart of gold you left behind
when you entered Heaven’s gate,
how grateful I would be to
have just one more day.

My Angel

By CJR

I wake up in the morning,
And I look up to the sky.
I wonder why he took you,
before I said good-bye.

I look up to the stars at night,
And know you’re looking down.
I’d like to think you’re proud of me,
But I’m just stumbling round.

I crawl in bed and close my eyes,
And realize that you’re gone.
Then comes the fears and then the tears,
And life just seems so wrong.

I glance up at the heavens,
And I know you’re flying by.
My Angel’s watching over me,
I’m happy as I cry.

My Soulmate

John P. Read

I still say I Love You,
But now there's no reply.
I always feel your presence
As if you never left my side.

I remember your comforting voice.
Now there's not a sound.
Only echoes from the past
Follow me around.

You're always by my side,
But I can't hold your hand.
The reason why God took you
I find hard to understand.

Summer days seem much shorter.
Dark nights just linger on.
Dreams turn into nightmares
When the one you love has gone.

But real love never fades.
It still burns like the sun.
Although they're far away,
Those memories go on and on.

Her spirit will never die
It shines like the stars.
I know you're sleeping in heaven,
But you're living in my heart.
